A Glorious Mess Christmas

If you’ve been following this site even just a year, you may have noticed that it’s a tradition to write at least one new Christmas story each year. I say ‘at least one’ because in 2020, I wrote seven new short stories for a collection loosely set up like Canterbury tales. While an exhilarating experience, it’s not necessarily the minimum, as in 2021, I went back to my usual one, Christmas in the Stars.

However, as I approach 2023, I am still looking to start the Glorious Mess Collection, and want to take this opportunity to have some fun and share with each other our talents and abilities. Also, if it happens, it’ll mean I can do something I’ve always wanted to do, but have never had the ability to time to do: a creative content countdown from December 1st to Christmas Day.

The Glorious Mess Advent Calendar

I’m putting out the call to creatives of all types (artists, writers, poets and more besides) to submit work to be featured on scribeofworlds and the various social medias attached to it. Just like a chocolate advent calendar gives you something special each day, this Glorious Mess Advent Calendar will give viewers new content every morning.

Of course, this can’t happen without you. I, as much as I love writing and the arts, am only one person, and creating 25 unique pieces is not only daunting, it’s overwhelmingly stressful. As you can probably guess from everything I’ve made, I’m not looking for perfection – just the chance to have fun and share what we do with others. And I want to do that with you.

Not a creative? Stick around – I have a request for you, too. (And if you get bored, just scroll to the bottom)

What Am I Looking For?

There are 25 days, and so we are looking for 25 pieces for each day. If we get more, then we’ll either Double Gift and release two or more pieces on some days, or extend it past Christmas to the rest of the month.

Does it have to be Christmas related?

While not required to be Christmas (or holiday) related, it is encouraged. Feel free to submit other projects if you’re unsure and we can talk them over!

Are there any creative limits?

Only a few.

First, it should be family friendly.

Second, we aren’t accepting music (for a couple reasons). If you have lyrics for a song, though, you can share them and include a link to the song if you have it posted somewhere.

Third, please don’t send novels. Try to keep written texts to under 4,000 words or so. If you have a longer one, let me know and we can talk about it!

Other than that, the only limit is your imagination. Feel free to sketch or paint, write stories or poetry, sculpt or carve. I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

How should we send our submissions in?

You can either reach out through social media (the Scribe of Worlds page on Facebook or @scribeofworlds on Instagram), or send me an email at scribeofworlds@gmail.com. I will warn you, though, the email is probably the least reliable. You can also use the contact form on this website. After that, we can figure out the best way to submit your work!

Okay, but I’m not a creative person…

First of all, don’t sell yourself short. You might surprise yourself.

Second, it’s still not a problem! I’m developing a list of prompts and ideas to share, and would love your input there. It can be everything from a character concept to a singular word that you want someone to work into a poem.

Christmastime is (almost) here

As we cross the Thanksgiving line and enter into Christmas, I hope you’ll take a moment to lean into your artistic side for a bit. Come and share in the Glorious Mess Christmas Advent Calendar.

If you have any other questions or comments, feel free to reach out in any of the ways above! I’d love to hear from you.

Hope to see you there!
