The Candle of Joy

Today’s poem comes from Emmy Hunt. As we enter into the week of Joy, I hope you’ll take time to consider and enjoy these words. If you enjoy what you see, check out littlebrownpoembook on instagram, where she shares selections of her poetry.

Poem “Joy” by Emmy Hunt

(Text included in case the picture doesn’t load)

Joy

Behold the unlit candle
the third one out of five.
Approach the Advent altar
flick the flame alive

Closed eyes recall the moments
you’ve had to make a choice –
to let life’s trials drown you,
or heed hope’s stubborn voice.

Light has dawned upon us!
Prepare the way and see –
He’s come to break our burdens.
Rejoice! We’ve been set free.
