God With Us

Today’s post is from Chris Peters – a further meditation on a name of Jesus. I hope you take a moment and consider it.

Matthew 1:23, “…they will name Him Immanuel, which is translated ‘God is with us.'”

Immanuel, one of the many names of Jesus, but do we stop and consider it?

God is with us.

God.

God who spoke the world into existence. God who flung the stars into the heavens.

God who made Himself as a man. God who is all powerful, all knowing, all consuming, all righteous and eternal.

Is.

Present. Happening now. In this moment all the time.

With.

Accompanied, Standing beside, walking beside, leading ahead, carrying us, God is right by our side, carrying us through, leading the way, fighting for us and giving us an anchor.

Us.

You. Me.

God is with us.

God came down and lived with us in human form, divine majesty wrapped in human skin. He lived, He was hungry, He was thirsty, He was tired, He was hot, He was cold. He was God. He was man. He was king.

God cares about us. About you. About me. About the difficulties we face. About the joys we experience. God loves us and He became like us, so that we could understand Him.

God is with us. Immanuel.
