I Don’t Know You, But I Love You

This might sound crazy, but I’m going to say it anyway.

I love you.

I don’t know who you are – I can’t tell who reads this and who passes it by. I don’t know if you’re one of my friends, supporting me and my love for writing, or if you’re someone who’s stumbled onto this blog and is scanning through. I assure you, though, I do love you.

Why?

I think we’ve had enough of snow – here are some flowers

I’m glad you asked.

Why I Love You

Pause for a second, if you will.

Find a mirror. Or a phone camera, turned on selfie mode. Or just darken your screen, and use that. If you don’t have any of those things, then reach up and touch your face.

Now, looking into that, tell me what you see? What do you feel?

That face staring back at you – maybe you like it. Maybe you don’t. I can’t convince you either way.

But the fact of the matter, it’s yours. It connects to the rest of you, the beautiful person that you are.

And for that, for the sole reason that you exist, I love you.

I love you because you, like me, are a person. You live, you breath, you experience life, you laugh, you cry, you struggle, you fail and you overcome. That alone is worth my love.

That’s why I write what I do. I love you, and I want to bless you in whatever way I can. I don’t expect you to agree with everything I say, but I do hope you’ll know that it’s written in a spirit of love. I want to challenge you to grow and become stronger. Sometimes, that’ll be because you agree with what I say, and sometimes, that’ll be because you disagree. Whatever way, I hope you grow.

I don’t know you, and yet I love you. Sometimes, that’s easier than loving the people I do know.

You, I love not knowing your flaws. My friends, I love despite knowing them. It’s not easy – in fact, it’s impossible on my own.

You might disagree with me on what what’s coming next, but that’s a risk I’ll take.

See, humanly, it’s impossible for me to love the people that I do know. You, who I don’t know, are easy. But when you know someone, you know their flaws and their blessings. You know in what ways they’re weaker than you, and in what ways they’re stronger.

Their weaknesses and flaws may make you frustrated. Their strengths and their blessings may make you jealous. But still, I love them.

How?

I remember that, just like me, they’re a person, created in the image of the Creator. That God loved them so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to bear the punishment for the wrongs we’d committed against Him.

A walk with friends I know and still love

If God loves them so much, I figure, then how can I love them any less?

I’m far from perfect at it – just like any human, I’m full of flaws and weaknesses myself.

Whatever happens, though, I brush myself off and remind myself that just like He loves them, God loves me, too.

So I get up and try again to love other properly, those I know and those I don’t.

Maybe it’s crazy, but I’m going to say it anyway.

I love you.

God loves you, too.
